Correction of the Adam's apple |
General informationCorrection of the Adam’s apple is a simple and safe operation in which a protruding and conspicuous Adam’s apple is adjusted. This operation harmonises the proportions of the neck and ensures improvement of the neck contour. The ensuing scar is small and barely noticeable, since the skin of the neck generally heals very well.
Who will benefit from this procedure?
Reduction of the Adam’s apple may be desirable in cases where the shape or the size of the Adam’s apple plays an important part in the proportions of the neck. A protruding Adam’s apple can create an unsightly distortion of the neck contour. Correction of the Adam’s apple will restore these proportions to normal.
What to expectOperative correction of the Adam’s apple has a permanent effect. The scar is situated horizontally across the Adam’s apple and may be visible as a thin line, especially during the first few weeks after the operation. Although this operation provides an improvement, we cannot guarantee perfection. Nor should you expect that such an operation will solve any social problems or problems associated with a relationship. Nevertheless, this operation will transform your appearance, and may well give you more self-confidence, as well as giving rise to less comment from other people.
PreparationIt is essential to discuss your wishes and expectations thoroughly with the plastic surgeon before surgery. You should realise that the final results are not one hundred per cent in the hands of the surgeon performing the operation: the quality of the Adam’s apple tissue also plays a significant part.
ProcedureBy making a tiny horizontal incision over your Adam’s apple, space is created whereby several millimetres of the protruding part can be removed, following which the skin incision is closed. Surgery is performed under local anaesthetic. You can go home the very same day.
Risks and complicationsThere is very little chance of post-operative bleeding or infection, and changes in the voice likewise occur extremely rarely.
AfterwardsGenerally speaking, the operation is not that painful, although there is almost always some swelling around the Adam’s apple itself. This disappears after 2 to 6 weeks, however.
ResultsThe results of an Adam’s apple correction are permanent, so the problems with your Adam’s apple will be banished forever. Nonetheless, the results are not always exactly as you had imagined, and may be adversely influenced by the quality of the Adam’s apple tissue and by the effect of the scar tissue.
FinallyWe will treat you to the very best of our ability. However, we cannot guarantee either the results or an undisrupted procedure. Please don’t hesitate to ask us any questions you like. We will be happy to answer them.
