Botox treatment against wrinkles |
General informationWrinkles can be removed by Botox - a liquid which is injected to reduce the muscular over-activity that often causes facial wrinkle formation. Frown-lines, crows' feet and horizontal forehead lines are all commonly associated with muscular over-activity. Botox injections relax the muscles, causing skin wrinkles to disappear.
What does the treatment involve?During the Botox treatment a small amount of Botox is injected into the 'problem' area. The injections are entirely safe and almost completely painless. No anaesthetic is required and you can go home and resume normal activities immediately after the treatment.
What outcome may I expect?Your skin will be much smoother. Unsightly frown-lines, crows' feet and horizontal forehead lines will disappear, making your appearance more youthful and perhaps less care-worn. The normal expressiveness of your face will not be impaired. The effect of Botox treatment will become apparent after three to five days and will continue for three to six months. Naturally, the degree and duration of the treatment's effectiveness differs from one individual to another. Once the effect has worn off, re-treatment is possible; the frequency with which treatment is needed is likely to reduce slightly over time.
Are there any side-effects?Many doctors have been providing Botox treatment for many years without safety problems or side-effects. In very rare cases, drooping eyelids have been reported, but this phenomenon wears off after one to two weeks.
How do I know whether Botox treatment would be appropriate for me?Only wrinkles caused by contraction of the muscles beneath the skin can be removed by Botox. Wrinkles that result from the skin becoming looser or being exposed to a lot of sun will not respond to Botox treatment. Your doctor or consultant can give you full details of the treatment and advise you on the best way to reduce facial wrinkles.
Is there anyone who shouldn't have Botox treatment? We cannot give Botox treatment to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. In addition, people with a history of neuromuscular problems should not have the treatment.
